Truth in Taxation / Proposed Budget
Taxing units must comply with truth-in-taxation requirements when holding public hearings, considering budgets and setting rates to impose property taxes.
Truth-in-taxation laws require that when a proposed tax rate for the entity's budget exceeds the rollback rate or the effective rate, whichever is lower, the taxing unit's governing body must vote to place the proposal to adopt the tax rate in the agenda as an action item. If the motion passes, the governing body must schedule two public hearings on the proposed tax rate and notify the public of dates, times, and place for these hearings.
The Town of Pantego Council will also hold a public hearing on the annual operating proposed budget. The public is encouraged to review the Town's proposed budget on the Town's website or view a paper copy of the budget in the City Secretary's office. The public may comment in person at the scheduled public hearing, provide written comments either through mail, email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by fax at 817-617-3726. Any written comments received will be included with information provided to the Town Council for consideration.
Members of the public are encouraged to provide input through any means available and/or attend the public hearing during the budget process. The next budget process will begin July 2019 for Fiscal Year 2019-2020.
