Targeted Ground Spraying in Response to Mosquito in Nearby Trap Testing Positive for WNV

The Town of Pantego will be conducting targeted ground spraying for mosquito control in the northwest portion of Town tonight, Wednesday, May 31, and tomorrow, Thursday, June 1, sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. These additional sprays are in response to a mosquito in a nearby trap, on Forest Edge Drive in Arlington, testing positive for West Nile Virus.

As always, it is recommended that residents and their pets stay indoors. Thank you for your cooperation.

The City of Arlington has also announced that they plan to conduct targeted spraying during these times. These supplemental targeted ground sprays are intended to reduce the known virus-infected adult mosquito population as quickly as possible.

The next regularly scheduled monthly Town-wide spraying for general mosquito population control will be Thursday, June 22, between 9:30 and 11:30 p.m.

How can you prevent mosquito bites that could lead to mosquito-borne illness?

🦟 DUSK & DAWN: stay indoors when mosquitoes are most active

🦟 DRAIN: prevent, eliminate, or treat standing water in flower pots, toys, gutters, and wading pools

🦟 DRESS: opt for light-colored long sleeves and pants

🦟 DEET: apply EPA-approved repellent when outdoors

DID YOU KNOW?... One teaspoon of water left standing for just one week can allow for breeding. Mosquito dunks are recommended in bird baths or water that pets might drink because the active ingredient is BTI, a bacteria toxic to mosquito larvae but safe for people, fish, animals, and other insects. Any other standing water that is difficult to prevent can be treated with a drop of dish soap, which kills eggs and larvae and lessens the surface tension causing mosquitoes to drown.
