Many of you have concerns about the current swine flu outbreak in our area. as the Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for Pantego I have been in continuous contact with local County and State health and Emergency Management coordinators.
At this point the public is advised to take precautions regarding possible exposure. Those Precautions include:
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
* Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
*Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
* If you get sick, the CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Despite the closing of some special events involving mass gatherings, at this point the State has not provided any official guidance on the cancelling of those gatherings. Everyone should use their own judgement regarding attending any mass gatherings that they are planning to attend.
The Town of Pantego is staying abreast of the latest information regarding the current outbreak of Swine Influenza and will provide any pertinent information to the public via this website as we receive it.
